Dusseldorf Much more on offer than you might think.

City Description

Düsseldorf is the top address for modern and contemporary art in Germany.

The art axis with its high-class museums, the renowned Academy of Arts, and more than 100 important galleries corroborate this claim.

Fashion and Shopping

Did you ever take a stroll along the famous ‘Kö’?
Düsseldorf is one of the world's most elegant shopping metropolises: with its beautiful Königsallee, a splendid boulevard featuring stylish shopping arcades and malls, Schadowstraße, one of the shopping streets achieving the highest turnover in Germany, and the hip boutiques of the Altstadt.
The most important fashion fair worldwide, attracting the most famous designers to Düsseldorf every year, guarantees that the shop windows always display the latest trends.
This is shopping at its best!

Joie de vivre on the Rhine

The Rhine embankment promenade is considered worldwide the most beautiful walk along the Rhine. Its construction has re-linked the city with the river - a welcome invitation to stroll or stay a while.
The steps on Burgplatz are one of Düsseldorf's most popular meeting places for the locals.

Food and Drink

Rhenish specialities: Rhenish sauerbraten, Flönz (Blutwurst or black pudding) and thick pea soup, known in Düsseldorf as Ähzezupp, are all traditional mainstays.
So is Halver Hahn (nothing to do with chicken, halved or otherwise, as German linguists might think).
In fact it's a round and robust cheese with caraway seeds and onion, munched with a Röggelchen a small ryebread roll which goes down nicely with a drop of Alt, the mellow, dark beer still brewed according to ancient top-fermentation method.

Alt beer
Everyone succumbs to the seductive powers of Alt.
Not only visitors to the Altstadt, the "longest bar in the world", where bars and traditional ale houses jostle for space. Alt goes down well all over Düsseldorf - and way beyond.
As does the city's spicy Mostert (mustard), another strong favourite.
Düsseldorf boasts down-to-earth pubs and cosy eateries, gourmet bistros and the true crème de la crème of restaurants, some of which enjoy top ranking among Germany's starred establishments.

Pub/restaurant closing times
Most Düsseldorf pubs and restaurants close at 1 am. Proper night clubs and discos stay open later.

Airport

The public transportation authorities maintain excellent connections from the city centre to the airport via the interurban railway, underground trains and bus lines.
